Oyo Assembly Passes Amotekun Into Law

The Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed into law the Oyo State Security Network Agency Bill 2020.

The passage of the bill followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Security and Special Duties led by Mr. Akeem Obadara representing Ibadan North West constituency.

The new security outfit which was launched in January this year by some governors of the six states in the South West region is code-named ‘Operation Amotekun’.

Oyo Government Ousts NURTW From Parks, Appoints Managers

The Oyo State government is forging ahead with the ousting of members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers from the motor parks and garages in the state by inaugurating on Monday state appointed managers in all the 33 local government areas across the state.

Prof Raphael Afonja, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Oyo disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Ibadan on Friday.

Afonja said that the park managers would be in charge of the N200 revenue collection from each commercial vehicle operating in the state.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has asked the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop celebrating the maladministration represented by the immediate past government of Abiola Ajimobi.

Fulani Teenager’s Kidnappers Nabbed, ₦1m Ransom Recovered

The Oyo State Police Command, on Thursday, arrested the kidnappers of a 17-year-old boy, Shakiru Weti, and recovered the ₦1m paid as ransom by the relatives of the victim.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Shina Olukolu, who paraded the suspects, said the kidnappers engaged police personnel in a gun battle while trying to rescue the victim.

Olukolu said the family members were encouraged to agree to pay the amount demanded, while detectives laid ambush for the kidnappers.
