Those Seeking To Void Constitution Should Go To Court – Omo-Agege

Deputy President of the Nigeria Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege has told South-south representatives who requested the abolishment of the 1999 Constitution to approach the courts.

Some south-south representatives had approached the Constitution Review Committee to demand that a brand new constitution be developed and the old one trashed.

The representatives of five states from the South-South under the auspices of BRADEC United Assembly also asked for a new constitution tailored for the Nigerian people.

But Omo-Agege said only a court of competent jurisdiction has the power to decide on a fresh constitution as the committee lacks powers to do so.

On Thursday, a member of the House of Representatives, Nicholas Ossai accused the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo Agege of using his position to block his bill on establishment of a tertiary institution in his constituency.

The lawmaker, who is also from Delta state as Omo-Agege, said that his bill was blocked because the Deputy Senate President is also sponsoring a bill on the same subject matter.

Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege at a valedictory session on Wednesday revealed that he worked closely with the late Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu.
