The Transition Committee Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Chinwe Ugwu has drawn the ire of residents of Enugu State and beyond after she rolled out a wheelbarrow empowerment program.

DAILY SUN reports that Ugwu is one of the chairmen that were appointed last December, ahead of the Local Government election slated for February this year.

However, in a move many have described as ‘shocking and insulting’, she launched a wheelbarrow empowerment scheme on Monday, at the Council secretariat.

Holiday spirits in one Brooklyn first-grade classroom got doused in ice water Monday when a teacher told his young pupils Santa Claus doesn’t exist, according to a report.

A substitute teacher at Public School 321 in Park Slope ruined Santa and the tooth fairy in one fell swoop while doing some age-inappropriate myth-busting during a lesson on “convincing,” angry parents told News 12 Brooklyn.

One first grader came home asking, “’but that’s not right, right?’” his concerned mom told News 12.

“Stuff like this, that their parents lie to them, I think is damaging to kids,” the mom said.

The Senate came under fire yesterday for proposing the Hate Speech Prohibition Bill, which seeks to criminalise the offence with death as a penalty.

The bill, which passed first reading at the plenary yesterday, seeks to establish a federal government agency to check hate speech.

After public servants in eSwatini took to the streets demanding pay increases, King Mswati III has come under fire for “spoiling” his family with a fleet of luxury BMWs.

Formerly known as Swaziland, the monarchy has left opposition party, the People’s United Democratic Movement (Pudemo), fuming as it appeared to ignore calls for government employees to be remunerated better, and instead doubled down by ordering 120 BMWs which were delivered on Thursday.

Around 700 public servants rallied in the capital Mbabane on Thursday against the rule of Mswati, whom they accused of draining public coffers.

Tempers rose and tears flowed freely yesterday following the death of a fresh medical doctor, barely 24 hours after graduating from the University of Lagos. He was stabbed on Thursday by suspected hoodlums but gave up the ghost  yesterday.

The victim, Dr Stephen Urueye, was a house officer at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital(LUTH).
