Panic As Mob Destroys Adeleke’s Billboards In Osun

The Ejigbo town in the Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State was thrown into a state of panic as campaign billboards of Senator Ademola Adeleke were destroyed and set ablaze by an unknown mob.

Sources had narrated to Newsmen that a mob was observed destroying and tearing down the billboards in parts of the town.

Senator Ademola Adeleke is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for the Osun 2022 election.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola not to cause a breakdown of law and order in Osun State and also jettison his planned celebration of his 10th year anniversary in the state.

The party gave the warning on Tuesday in a statement by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Diran Odeyemi in Osogbo, who appealed to security agencies to be on the alert to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State has reportedly sacked over 100 staff of the institution amidst growing concerns about the effect of ravaging COVID-19 on the country’s economy.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Saturday described the virtual matriculation organised by the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Labode Popoola as a scam.

Africa Daily News gathered that Osun State University recently conducted a virtual matriculation exercise attended by only principal officers of the institution led by the Vice-Chancellor.

But, ASUU while reacting, lashed out at the Vice-Chancellor.

Oluwo Council Accepts Six-Month Suspension

 

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has finally accepted the six months suspension handed down to him by the Osun State Traditional Rulers Council.

The council in a meeting presided over by the Ooni of Ife, suspended the monarch from attending its meetings over his alleged faceoff with the  Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa, Oba Dhikurulahi Akinropo.

Earlier, the Oluwo’ of Iwo initially described the suspension as ”Audio,” insisting he’s still on the thrown and didn’t need to attend their meetings. He appears to have had a change of heart as he has now accepted the decision of the council.

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba (Dr.) Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi has dismissed his suspension by the Osun State Traditional Council, saying it is ‘audio’ a street slang for ‘fake’.

Oluwo, who has been in the news over alleged assault on another traditional ruler at a meeting in Osogbo, Osun State capital last weekend, was suspended as a member of Osun traditional Council on Friday.

The Traditional Council, however, said Oluwo was suspended because of his disrespect to other monarchs of higher status in the past, including the Ooni of Ife who presided over the meeting in which he was suspended on

The new National Chairman is Mr. Adekunle Omoaje.

Tension As Oluwo Beats Up Another Monarch During Meeting

There is palpable tension amongst traditional rulers in Osun State, following a report of Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi beating up another monarch during a peace meeting.

It was gathered that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of zone 11, Bashir Makama, had called for a peace meeting amongst royal fathers from Iwo axis over land disputes.

According to the source, it was in the middle of the meeting, which had other monarchs, including some top police personnel, as well as government functionaries in attendance, that Oba Akanbi allegedly stood up from where he was sitting and descended
