Trump Mocks Oscar’s Best Movie Pick Parasite

The U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday ridiculed the historic best-picture Oscar win for South Korean film “Parasite,” telling a campaign rally he wished for the return of Hollywood classics such as 1939’s “Gone with the Wind.”

“Parasite,” a dark social satire about the gap between rich and poor in modern Seoul, earlier this month, became the first non-English Language film to take Hollywood’s top prize.

The nominations for 92nd Academy Awards were announced on Monday.

Joker leads with 11 nods.

Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Little Women, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Marriage Story, Parasite and 1917 are all in the running for best picture this year.

Scarlett Johansson scored a rare double acting nomination for best actress and best supporting actress for Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit respectively.

Genevieve’s Lionheart Submitted For Oscar

The Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee (NOSC) has picked Genevieve’s ‘Lionheart’ as the country’s submission to the International Feature Film category of the 2020 Oscars.

The group announced the selection today, following a statutory vetting and subsequent voting of entries received from Nigerian filmmakers at home and in the Diaspora.

Produced by Chinny Onwugbenu, Chichi Nwoko, Genevieve Nnaji, and directed by Genevieve Nnaji, ‘Lionheart’ premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and was acquired on September 7, 2018, as first Netflix original film produced in Nigeria. Some film critics say ‘The Delivery Boy’, a film that explores the back story of terrorists, deserves the Oscars and other international awards.
