Legal Battle To Secure Orji Kalu’s Release Starts Today

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos  south west Nigeria will today commence the hearing of application filed by team of lawyers on behalf of former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu to secure his release.

This follows the Supreme Court judgment of May 8, 2020 which declared that the Judge who sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment had no jurisdiction to do so.
Orji is serving a 12-year jail term at the Correctional Service Centre in Kuje, Abuja for looting N7.65billion belonging to the Abia State Government.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has reacted to the victory of former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu at the Supreme Court.

 

Nnamdi Kanu  thanked God for the court ruling which went in favour of the Senator representing Abia North at the National Assembly and warned President Muhammadu Buhari against jailing Christians and Southerners.

Orji Kalu Deserves EFCC Apology Not Retrial – Enugu APC

The Enugu State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to tender an apology to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

Africa Daily News reports that Kalu who had been in prison custody following conviction by a High Court has now been set free by the apex court in the land.
