The Senate, yesterday, directed the Executive to ban importation of foreign textile materials. 

The upper legislative chamber said it was worried that all textile manufacturing industries in the country were comatose and importation of foreign fabrics on the rise.

It has, therefore, urged the Executive to revamp Kaduna, Kano, Aba, United Nigeria textiles, among others to promote local textile production.   The decision followed a motion by Barkiya Abdullahi Kabir on the urgent need to revamp the nation’s comatose textile industry.

Adamawa: Gov Orders Payment Of Minimum Wage, Effective Nov.

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has ordered the implementation of ₦30,000 new national Minimum Wage in the state.

The new wage takes effect from November, according to a statement by the Director Media and Communications, Solomon Kumangar.

The statement reads:

“Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has directed that payment of the new national minimum wage should commence from November, 2019.

The Federal High Court, Lagos yesterday ordered that a plot of land in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, allegedly belonging to a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Justice Chuka Obiozor made the forfeiture order following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The anti-graft agency had told the judge that the land, measuring 7,903.71 to 8,029.585 square metres and designated as Plot 9, Azikiwe Road, Old GRA (UAC Property on Forces Avenue), Port Harcourt, was reasonably suspected to part of proceeds of unlawful activities.

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday ordered the temporary forfeiture of 2,149 pieces of jewelry and a customised gold iPhone, seized from Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, to the Federal Government.

The items, valued at $40million (about N14.4b), were recovered from the home of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo ordered their temporary forfeiture as prayed for by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
