DSS Invites Nmodu, Newsdiary Online Publisher Over Story

The hierarchy of the Department of State Services (DSS) has invited the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Newsdiary online, Danlami Nmodu, to the headquarters of the Agency in Abuja for questioning.

A DSS operative who called Danlami by telephone on Wednesday morning, said the invitation was with respect to a story recently published on the Kano Ecological Fund projects.

He was asked to come either Wednesday or Thursday morning.

It could be recalled that Newsdiary online had published a story, titled, “Diplomatic backlash, legal tussle loom as FG dumps German firm over Kano Project”.

New Zealand Creates Unit To Target Online Hate Speech

New Zealand will establish a team of investigators dedicated solely to tackling online extremism and hate speech, as it moves to address failures exposed by the Christchurch mosques massacre, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said Monday.

Ardern has led global efforts to force technology firms to clamp down on extremist material since a lone gunman killed 51 Muslim worshippers in March, streaming part of the atrocity on Facebook.

But she said the attack, which targeted two mosques in the South Island city, also showed her own government needed to improve resources to curb the spread of online hate.

Indonesia to bar online advert of cigarette

Indonesia’s communications ministry on Thursday said it would remove all cigarette advertisements from the internet, following a request from the health ministry.

A cigarette, also known colloquially as a fag in British English, is a narrow cylinder containing psychoactive material, usually tobacco, that is rolled into thin paper for smoking.

The health ministry cited existing laws banning the promotion of cigarettes and instructed the communications ministry to take action.
