Court Sentences Killers Of Olufunke Fasoranti To Death

The Ondo State High Court, Akure, yesterday sentenced three persons to death for killing Mrs Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of the Afenifere leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that the deceased was murdered by the convicts along Benin-Ore-Sagamu Expressway in the Ore Odigbo Local Government Area of the state in June 2019, on her way to Lagos State.

Apart from Olakunri, the convicts were also found guilty of killing one Mathew Ogunbiyi, who they killed in the bush.

In a surprising turn of events, some of the alleged attackers of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, have been nabbed and detained by the Ondo State police.

A trending video shows a crowd protesting within the palace of the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye.

One of them could be heard saying: “They want to take them (suspects) to Akure. The youths are angry.”

Gunmen, last Sunday, invaded the church and murdered several worshippers, including women and children in Ondo.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Mr Oyeyemi Oyediran, has confirmed the deployment of officers of the Explosive Ordinance Device Unit (anti-bomb squad) to the scene of the attack in Owo Local Government Area of the state.

The Northern Elders Forum, NEF, has told herders in Ondo State to remain in their locations and reject any move to label them as criminals.
