MC Oluomo Suspended Indefinitely, NURTW Insists

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has suspended its Lagos State chapter’s Chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, indefinitely following major disagreements.

The National Public Relations Officer of the union, Chukwudi Asogwa, confirmed the suspension to newsmen on Thursday.

‘Yes, it is true. The letter you saw in circulation is from the national headquarters,’ he said when asked to confirm the suspension..

Oyo Government Ousts NURTW From Parks, Appoints Managers

The Oyo State government is forging ahead with the ousting of members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers from the motor parks and garages in the state by inaugurating on Monday state appointed managers in all the 33 local government areas across the state.

Prof Raphael Afonja, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Oyo disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Ibadan on Friday.

Afonja said that the park managers would be in charge of the N200 revenue collection from each commercial vehicle operating in the state.

Sanwo-Olu Threatens To Ban NURTW In Lagos

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has threatened to proscribe the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) if the members do not conduct themselves well.

The governor said this yesterday on a television programme, where he maintained that his administration was committed to delivering his Greater Lagos vision.

Sanwo-olu said,

“The NURTW is a national body of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC). It is a registered trade union.“Like other unions, they are under the supervision of the state government. We regulate and supervise them. They would be proscribed if they don’t conduct themselves well.”

 One person was shot while many others were yesterday injured at the Igando area of Lagos State when members of the  National Union Of Road Transport Workers (NURTW ), and the Road Transport Employers Association Of Nigeria (RTEAN) clashed. Already, I0 persons have been arrested in connection with the pandemonium.
