NUJ Blasts NBC For Revoking Licenses Of Silverbird, Others

Fresh reports reaching the desk of Africa Daily News, New York has revealed that the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has openly come out to fully condemn the decision of the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, to revoke the licenses of 52 broadcast stations in Nigeria.

NUJ’s National President, Chris Isiguzo had also lamented that the NBC’s decision was hasty, ill-timed and reckless.

NBC had announced  that it would be revoking the broadcast licences of Silverbird TV, AIT, Raypower FM, and Rhythm FM, amongst others.

The Kogi State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to restore military checkpoints on Okene – Lokoja- Abuja road to check the activities of bloodthirsty criminals on the road.

A statement signed by the council chairman, Adeiza Momoh Jimoh and Secretary, Ademu Seidu said the road has become a safe haven for criminals, leaving tales of woes on families of their victims.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ebonyi State council has condemned in totality what it tagged as the unwarranted arrest of its chairman, Tony Nwizi by armed gunmen in police uniform.

It was gathered that the said armed squad stormed the residence of Tony Nwizi, who is the state chairman of NUJ at the early hours of Saturday.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has called on the federal government and the nation’s armed forces to arrest the increased killings by herdsmen across the country, particularly in Southern Kaduna and Boko Haram terrorists in the North-East.

NUJ Suspends Congresses In States, Chapels Indefinitely

Following the move by government and organizations to ensure that Coronavirus which is also known as COVID-19 is contained in Nigeria, the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ has become the latest association to act in that regards.

In a statement issued on Friday, the pen body directed that all congresses across the union’s 37 state councils and chapels should be suspended immediately until further notice.

According to the National Secretary of NUJ, Shuaibu Usman Leman the measure will assist to enforce and maintain social distance towards safeguarding members of the union and the public.
