US Warns Iran Is Preparing A ‘Nuclear Breakout’

The United States has accused Iran of preparing “a rapid nuclear breakout” after it began pumping uranium gas into hundreds of centrifuges, another step that violates the landmark 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made the comments on Thursday, after Iran stepped up activity at its underground Fordow nuclear plant. He warned against Tehran’s “violence and terror” and urged the international community to take immediate action.

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) confirmed the latest nuclear programme step after 2,000kg (4,400 pounds) of uranium hexafluoride was transferred from the Natanz nuclear facility to

Iran Nuclear Deal: Uranium Enrichment To Resume Underground

The Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran unveiled advanced centrifuges at Natanz

Iran will begin enriching uranium at its underground Fordo facility on Wednesday, rolling back another commitment under a 2015 nuclear deal.

President Hassan Rouhani said the step was reversible if world powers party to the accord upheld their commitments.

Enriched uranium can be used to make reactor fuel but also nuclear weapons.

This is the fourth step taken by Iran since July in response to sanctions the US reinstated when abandoning the deal.

The 2015 accord was intended to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions in return for relief from sanctions

Oil, Diamonds, Nuclear Power: Russia Eyes Africa Business

While Russia has traditionally focused on arms and grain exports to Africa, it is now looking to broaden its activities and influence.

Here are four sectors likely to be discussed at the Russia-Africa Summit set for next Wednesday and Thursday in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

Russia is one of the world’s top hydrocarbon producers and exporters through energy giants like Gazprom, Rosneft and Lukoil.

But with 65 percent of its territory covered with permafrost, exploration and extraction are costly, so Russia is eyeing up promising reserves in Africa.

U.S. pulls out of nuclear treaty with Russia

U.S. pulls out of nuclear treaty with Russia

The United States formally withdrew from a landmark nuclear missile pact with Russia on Friday after determining that Moscow was in violation of the treaty and had no plans to come into compliance with it.

U.S. President Donald Trump made the determination that the United States would terminate adherence to the 1987 arms control accord, known as the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), senior administration officials told reporters.

The treaty bans either side from stationing short- and intermediate-range, land-based missiles in Europe. Washington signaled its intention six months ago to pull out of the agreement if Russia made no move …

Iran to partially withdraw from nuclear deal

Iran will partially pull out of the nuclear deal it signed with the United States and five other nations. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said his country would reduce its “commitments” to the deal, signed in 2015, but wouldn’t completely withdraw.

President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the agreement — which was intended to prevent Iran from developing nukes — a year ago.

Tensions between the two countries have ramped up in recent weeks: The United States moved to cut off Iran’s oil revenues, designated its Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist group and deployed a carrier strike groupand …

North Korea nuclear threat not over yet

Since President Trump met last year with Kim Jong Un, North Korea hasn’t changed a thing about its military capabilities. This blunt assessment came from Gen. Robert Abrams, commander of US Forces Korea, during a Senate hearing. Abrams said the North’s military still has the potential to put the US, South Korea and other allies at risk.

Tensions along the DMZ have eased though, the general said. Trump, who has said previously that the nuclear threat from North Korea is over, meets with Kim for a second summit on February 27 and 28 in Vietnam.
