Police in Northern Cape are investigating following the discovery of the bodies of two young girls in a deep freezer on Monday.

The two friends, aged four and five, were reported missing on Sunday in Bankhara.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba said, while a search was under way around 9am on Monday, a neighbour informed them that she had found the two bodies in an unused fridge while placing her house keys inside.

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Sunday that President Donald Trump had ordered the withdrawal of up to 1,000 troops from northern Syria, as the number of people fleeing a Turkish assault soared to 130,000.

After 40 Years, NNPC Discovers Oil In Northern Nigeria

• Commercial Viability Yet To Be Ascertained 
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), yesterday, announced the discovery of crude oil and gas in the Kolmani River II Well on the Upper Benue Trough, Gongola Basin.

However, the corporation noted that the commercial viability of the discovery coming from drilling of a total depth of 13,701 feet before hitting oil and gas in several levels is yet to be ascertained.

The group in a statement added that a Drill Stem Test (DST) is currently on-going to confirm the commercial viability and flow of the Kolmani River reservoirs.

Worried by the spate of killings and kidnapping in the region, the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) rose from a meeting in Kaduna yesterday with a resolve to develop a regional action plan to end the multiple security challenges.

A Second Republic lawmaker and prominent member of the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF), Dr. Junaid Muhammed, has said the socio-cultural group did not endorse People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

According to Muhammed, only some members of the group, led by Prof. Ango Abdullahi, backed Atiku.
