Ahead of the 2023 Presidential election, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has declared that the North will not support a candidate who seeks to benefit from strategies that exploit the ethnic and religious diversity of the region.

The spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has tasked those around President Muhammadu Buhari to ask him to resign.

Baba-Ahmed asserted that his call followed the recent state of insecurity in the country.

In series of tweets yesterday, the NEF spokesman feared things might be worse in 2023 considering the current situation in the country.

He said as president, the bulk stops at Buhari’s desk, and that he should take responsibility and not buck-pass to anyone.

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina over his comment against the Northern Elders’ Forum.

AYCF called on Adesina to stop what it termed insults and unguarded words against NEF’s convener, Prof. Ango Abdullahi.

Recall that Abdullahi had accused Buhari of failing in his responsibility of protecting people of the North, following several attacks by bandits and insurgents.

Former Lagos Commissioner of Police and member of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) Board of Trustees, Abubakar Tsav, has decried the statement issued by some of the forum members on President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, saying the board was not aware of the statement.

Tsav told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Makurdi, that the statement was not a “unanimous decision of entire NEF membership.”
