Where is Kim Jong Un? Here Is What We Know So Far

Rumours have swirled surrounding the health of North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un’s health following his noticeable absence from state media, official statements and public events in recent days.

The third-generation hereditary leader who came to power after his father’s death in 2011 has no clear successor and it is unclear who would lead the nuclear-armed nation in the event of his incapacitation.Speculation includes the theory that the controversial leader is isolating for fears of the coronavirus or that he is suffering from a serious injury or illness.

North Korea Calls For Stronger Coronavirus Measures

North Korea called for stronger measures against the rapidly spreading coronavirus pandemic at a meeting presided by leader Kim Jong Un, state media reported Sunday, without acknowledging whether the country had reported any infections.

The already isolated, nuclear-armed North quickly shut down its borders after the virus was first detected in neighbouring China in January, and imposed strict containment measures.

Officials in Pyongyang and its state media have repeatedly insisted that the North remains totally free of the virus, but Sunday’s report did not make that assertion.

Pyongyang is under multiple sets of sanctions over its weapons programmes from the United Nations Security Council, US, South Korea and others.

The North “appeared to have carried out joint firing drills involving …

North Korea Not Bothered By Coronavirus, Tests Missiles

Not bothered by coronavirus fears, North Korea fired three unidentified projectiles into the sea on Monday, Seoul’s military said, the second such weapons test by Pyongyang in a week.

The three devices were fired in a northeasterly direction from the Sondok area in South Hamgyong province, the South’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement, without further details.

“The military is monitoring for additional launches and maintaining readiness,” it added.

A spokesman at Japan’s defence ministry said North Korea launched what appeared to be “ballistic missile(s)”, adding there had been no indication of anything coming down in Tokyo’s territory …
