Removing Minimum Wage Will Enslave Workers – NLC, TUC

Workers on the platform of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), have declared that any attempt to remove the minimum wage from the exclusive list is an attempt to enslave Nigerian workers.

The workers made this disclosure when they protested against the removal of minimum wage from the exclusive list.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday called on government at all levels to include workers in its bailout funds, to help them establish businesses that will supplement their meagre monthly take home.

To avert the strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) billed to commence on Monday, the House of Representatives has offered organised labour some palliatives.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, at a negotiation meeting with labour on Sunday in Abuja said the palliatives would be included in the proposed 2021 budget.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has strongly condemned and rejected the sack of 100 Pilots by Air Peace and 69 Pilots by Bristow Helicopters.

Africa Daily News, New York eported that the management of Air Peace had announced that it sacked some of its pilots and supporting staff across its fleet while slashing staff salaries by up to 40 percent due to the effect of the coronavirus pandemic.

Organized labour has commenced mobilization of workers in 15 states of the federation for a strike to press home demand for the full implementation of the new minimum wage of ₦30,000.

The states, according to labour sources, are yet to demonstrate enough commitment in keying into the new dispensation.

The bone of contention in most of the states is the consequential adjustment of the new salary structure.
