FG Again Extends NIN Deadline By 8 Weeks

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy yesterday announced the extension of the deadline for the NIN-SIM linkage and verification by eight weeks, till June 30, 2021.

The extension which was disclosed in a jointly signed statement by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), is said to be because of requests by stakeholders so as to make it easier for all citizens and legal residents to register.

UTME: Why NIN Is Compulsory For Registration – JAMB Registrar

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said it made use of the National Identity Number (NIN) for registration of the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) compulsory, in a bid to checkmate examination malpractices.

JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stated this during a virtual meeting with owners of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres on Friday.

The Federal Government has extended the National Identity Number, NIN, registration deadline by 8 weeks.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Kayode Adegoke, Head, Corporate, Nigeria Identity Management Commission, NIMC.

HURIWA Asks Nigerians To Boycott NIN/SIM Registration

The Human Rights Writers Association Nigeria, HURIWA, on Monday, urged Nigerians to massively boycott the National Identification Number, NIN, and SIM registration.

HURIWA described the timing of linking NIN to SIM cards as suicidal, hence Nigerians should boycott the exercise if they have not enrolled with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The rights group said the refusal of Nigerian government to halt the process amid the spike of COVID-19 was insensitive and irresponsible.
