The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday apologised to Nigeria for the xenophobic attacks on its citizens.

The apology was tendered to President Muhammadu Buhari in the State House, Abuja, by the two special envoys the South African leader dispatched to Nigeria yesterday.

Addressing State House correspondents shortly after a closed-door meeting with the Nigerian president, Ramaphosa’s special envoy, Jeff Radebe said: “Those incidents do not represent what we stand for as a constitutional democracy in South Africa and the president has apologised for these incidents.”

119 Nigerians On Death Row In Malaysia Over Drug Crimes

A new report by Amnesty International, a human rights organisation, has revealed that 119 Nigerians are currently on death row in Malaysia. According to the report. Nigeria has the highest number of foreigners who have been sentenced to death in Malaysia.

The death penalty is currently retained as the punishment for 33 offences in the Asian country and is mandatory for 12 of these, according to the report.

As of February 2019, Amnesty reported, a total of 1,281 people were on death row in Malaysia, including 568 (44%) foreign nationals.

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, an elder statesman and frontline politician, has said the South-East geopolitical zone must be allowed to produce the next President in 2023.
