Nigerian Customs Donates 86 Seized Drones To Nigerian Navy

Fresh reports have revealed that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has on Tuesday made a generous donation of 86 drones to the Nigerian Navy (NN) toward enhancing some of its operations.

The NCS Comptroller-General retired Col. Hamid Ali, who had been in charge of presenting the items in Abuja had also revealed that they had been intercepted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after the importers had also failed to present End Users Certificate (EUC).

Nigeria Customs Rakes In ₦159.58B Revenue In 3 Months

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Command on Monday announced that it generated over ₦159.58 billion between January and March of 2021.

The Area Controller of the command, Ibrahim Yusuf, at a media briefing said that the revenues were receipts from customs duty and other charges.

He said the amount represented a 44.8 percent increment on duty collection when compared to 2020 figures of over ₦110 billion of the same corresponding months of January to March.

FEC Approves 1800 Laptops For Nigeria Customs Service

The Federal Government has approved the purchase of 1,800 units of laptop computers for computer-based test examinations at three Nigeria Customs Service training schools in Gwagwalada, Lagos, and Kano, at the cost of ₦351million.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the approval was given at the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

He disclosed that the council also approved ₦197million for the expansion of the Nigeria Customs Service’s cash management software in compliance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).

Operatives of the Western Marine Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have intercepted drugs suspected to be Cannabis Sativa valued at ₦1,002,050,000 during a seagoing patrol on Lagos waters.

The Controller of the command, Comptroller Olugboyega Peters, revealed this in a statement in Lagos on Thursday.

Peters described the seizure as the “largest single seizure” of such drugs on the waters in the history of the Nigeria Customs.

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered distribution of 150 trucks of rice seized by Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to the 36 states of the federation.

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists at a news conference in Abuja on Monday.

The news conference was on the fiscal stimulus measures in response to COVID-19 pandemic and oil prices fiscal shock.

2020 Budget: Senate Okays ₦238.15bn For Customs

The Senate, on Tuesday, okayed the sum of ₦238,149,325,832.70 for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for 2020 fiscal budget.

This approval was sequel to an adoption of the presentation by the committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and subsequent consideration at plenary.

DAILY POST also learnt that Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has warned MDAs to submit their audited accounts or risk punitive measures.

Senator Francis Alimikhena, who is chairman of the committee, said out of the total expenditure for the year 2020, N98.61 billion representing 41.41 percent is for Personnel cost; N15.95 billion representing 6.70 percent is for Overhead Cost;
