Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger have jointly declared they will withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), calling the Hague-based tribunal a tool of “neo-colonialist repression.”

In a coordinated statement on Tuesday, the three military-led governments said they no longer recognize the court’s jurisdiction and accused it of disproportionately targeting African nations. They pledged to establish “indigenous mechanisms for the consolidation of peace and justice” to handle war crimes and human rights abuses within their territories.

ECOWAS Gives Mali Junta Ultimatum To Name Civilian President

ECOWAS leaders who met in Niamey, Niger on Monday have given the military junta in Mali until Sept. 15 to name a transitional president and a prime minister, according to a statement read at the end of a summit on Monday.

The 15-nation bloc said the president and prime minister, who will lead the transitional government, should be civilians.

Armed bandits were again on rampage in some Niger communities on Saturday, killing 11 people, kidnapping scores of others, and raping women. The incident took place about 6am at Kudodo, Galapai, Dnakpala, Makera, and Dnalgwa villages of Shiroro Local Government Area.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Niger Command, on Monday confirmed that three people died in an auto crash on Bida – Kutigi road in Bida Local Government Area of the state.

The State FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Joel Dagwa,who made the confirmation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that the accident, which occurred on Sunday in Wuya village about 14 kilometres from Bida town, involved a Mitsubishi lorry with registration KRN 102 XA number, conveying 31 passengers.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr Godswill Akpabio, has described the Niger Delta Development Commission as a cesspool of corruption.

Akpabio, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, stated this during a courtesy call on Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River on Friday.

Niger Delta: EFCC, DSS Move Against Oil Theft

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Department of State Services (DSS), Thursday, pledged to fight against Niger Delta oil thieves and other maritime related economic crimes.

The anti-oil theft resolution was disclosed by the new EFCC PortHarcourt Zonal Head Office, Usman Imam, when he went on a familiarization visit to the Rivers State headquarters of the DSS located in the metropolis.

The acting Chairman of the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, has warned illegal oil bunkerers in the Niger Delta region to desist from oil theft and economic sabotage.

Bandits on Wednesday abducted the Chief Imam of Beni Central Mosque in Munya Local Government of Niger State, Alhaji Umar Ali, and 20 others.
