Panel On Nembe Killings

The Bayelsa State Government has inaugurated a six-member panel of enquiry on the violence that rocked Nembe Local Government Area and other parts of the state before and during the November 16 governorship election in the state. At least 20 persons were reportedly killed during the incident while over 93 persons, including bystanders were injured during an aborted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship rally in Nembe on November 13 when they were attacked by thugs. Nembe Killings: PDP Plotting Mayhem For APC – Sylva

Minister of State Petroleum and Director-General of Bayelsa APC governorship campaign council, Chief Timipre Sylva has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of causing mayhem in Nembe which is APC stronghold to weaken the resolve of the people to vote out the party on Saturday.

Sylva who addressed a press conference while expressing sadness over the deaths recorded in Nembe called on security agencies to act on the intelligence report over the activities of certain PDP chieftains.

He described the Nembe people as peace loving and wondered why violence had not broken out in the area since campaigns started.

Diri, PDP Mourn Death Of Party Members In Nembe

The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Douye Diri, has noted with dismay the brutal killings of no fewer than eight members of the party by thugs suspected to be from the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a botched rally in Nembe Ogbolomabiri on Wednesday.

Senator Diri, in an interview with reporters in Yenagoa, condemned the violence and prayed for repose of the souls of those who were murdered by the armed thugs.

Among the dead was the driver of the OB Van of Radio Bayelsa, Mr Simon Onu, who was gunned down beside his vehicle.
