Nearly 70 Dead In Syria Regime Clashes With Idlib Militants

Two days of clashes between regime forces and armed groups in Syria’s last major opposition bastion have killed nearly 70 on both sides, a war monitoring group said Sunday.

The battles in the northwestern province of Idlib are the most violent there since a Russian-brokered ceasefire agreement went into effect in late August, said the head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

On Sunday morning, clouds of smoke rose over the Maaret al-Numan region as warplanes pounded jihadists and allied rebels in positions they had recently recaptured from regime forces, said an AFP correspondent.

Delta State Government has expressed worry at the increasing number of persons displaced from their homes by ravaging flood, noting that the number of such persons being sheltered in many camps set up for displaced persons by the state government has almost doubled that for the same time last year.

Paul Manafort sentenced to nearly four years in prison

Lobbyist and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort learned on Thursday that he will serve almost four years in prison — far short of what had been expected and recommended — for financial fraud convictions obtained by special counsel Robert Mueller as he investigated Manafort’s alleged collusion with the Russian government in 2016.

The crimes, though serious among white-collar offenses, did not relate directly to Manafort’s work as Trump’s 2016 campaign chairman.

Nearly 100 Million Nigerians now living in extreme poverty

Over 91 million Nigerians are now living in extreme poverty, according to the report of World Poverty Clock, a Vienna, Austria-based data lab The report said at least three million Nigerians have slipped into extreme poverty between November 2018 and February 2019. According to the report, 91.16 million Nigerians were living below a dollar a day as of February 13, 2019.
