Electoral Misconduct: NYSC Reacts To Arrest Of Corps Member

The body of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has on Sunday fully condemned an alleged act of electoral misconduct which has seen the arrest and detainment of a corps member, Orji Nkenna, and some other staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State.

1,438 Jigawa Corps Members Trained By NYSC On Fresh Skills

1,438 corps members have been reportedly trained by the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC), in Jigawa. The scheme had announced that the training session would be encompassing various income-generating skills in Jigawa State, under its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.

Mr Umar Muhammad who is the SAED’s Deputy Director in the state had made this announcement at the closing ceremony of the training on Saturday in Dutse.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has been issued a new certificate by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Governor Obaseki reportedly served in the National Youth Service Corps in 1980 but had an error on the certificate issued to him as his surname read Obasek instead of Obaseki.

Recall that this was one of the reasons his former party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) allegedly disqualified him from participating in the party’s primary election.

Osinbajo’s Committee Hints On Suspending NYSC For Two Years

The Economic Sustainability Committee (ESC) led by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp for two years.

The recommendation was made by the committee due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The committee, however, recommended that deployment of primary assignment will still go on despite suspension.

Obi, Obiano Disagree Over Who Built Anambra NYSC Camp

Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has engaged his successor, Willie Obiano, over who should earn credit for the construction of the National Youth Service Corps’ permanent orientation site in the state.

Obiano had a week ago commissioned the new orientation camp of the NYSC in Mbaukwu, in Awka South Local Government Area, amid encomiums for his efforts.

18 Corps Members To Repeat NYSC Service In Ebonyi

No fewer than 18 members of the National Youth Service Corps, 2019 Batch C serving in Ebonyi State on Thursday have been directed to repeat service year for allegedly abscondment from service.

The corps members also received various degrees of punishment for flouting the rules and regulations of the scheme.

Coronavirus: NYSC Talks About 2020 Batch A Camp

Management of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC has debunked reports making the rounds that the scheme has postponed 2020 Batch A orientation programs.

NYSC in a statement by its Director, Press and Public Relations, Adenike Adeyemi (Mrs) described the reports as false and misleading.

The scheme noted that 2020 Batch “A” Orientation programme, scheduled to commence nationwide on 10th of March, 2020, will still hold despite the Coronavirus scare.

An ex-corps member identified as Boboye Olaribigbe has demanded ₦260 million from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Olaribigbe who is now an accountant said the ₦260 million is to be paid as the copyright value of a language project he executed for the scheme more than a decade ago.

He accused the National Youth Service Corps of refusing to pay him and threatened to take legal action if the demand was not met.
