Senate President Ahmad Lawan has called on the nation’s heads of security agencies to tighten security at the National Assembly to avert any security breach.

Lawan said he had received a report of security threats to the seat of parliament and such cannot be taken for granted.

A statement by his Special Adviser (Media), Ola Awoniyi, said Lawan spoke at an emergency meeting of the Senate leadership with top security officials at the National Assembly Abuja.

Lawan Raises Security Threat Alarm At National Assembly

President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday tasked top security officials to beef up security measures at the National Assembly.

Lawan, who is also the Chairman of the National Assembly, said that he had received reports of security threat to the assembly.

A statement by Ola Awoniyi, his Media Adviser, said Lawan spoke at an emergency closed door meeting with top security officials.

“Many unknown and uninvited people came or are coming into the National Assembly complex and we felt we shouldn’t take this lightly.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo has called on the National Assembly to legalise the use of card readers in elections in the country.

Mr Chris Nehikhare, the Publicity Secretary for the party in Edo, made the call on Thursdsy in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin.

He stated this against the backdrop of the party’s preparation for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

N’Assembly Begins Consultation With Executive Over PIB

President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, wednesday disclosed that the National Assembly has commenced consultation with the executive arm of government on a new version of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) to be introduced in the ninth National Assembly.

Lawan disclosed this during a meeting with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) who paid a visit to his office at the National Assembly in Abuja.
