A Summit On National Debt

With respect to our debt problem I am expecting the 2020 budget to address it. One of the ways to do that should be to organize a national debt emergency policy summit. This should involve all the public and private stakeholders from federal to states.

Having said that, let me remind us once again that Nigeria’s problem is not that its national debt is excessive. After all, among peer economies, we are the least borrowed especially in GDP ratio. In fact, from debt to GDP and especially external to domestic debt ratio we are an under-borrowed economy.

But Nigeria’s debt …

APC National Reconciliation Committee as Revenge Vehicle

There are well placed concerns that the All Progressives Congress National Reconciliation Committee constituted by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the party is primed to achieve a take over of the structure of the party in Edo State through the back door, writes Nseobong Okon-Ekong

National Reconciliation Committee constituted recently by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the chairmanship of Senate President, Ahmed Lawan supposedly to reconcile aggrieved members in the party, though appears sportsmanly to the undiscerning in the face of the orchestrated crisis championed by the latter-day apostle of peace, but …

Between Rule Of Law And National Security: Fresh Anxiety

During the military era, security agencies such as the Police, Department of State Service (DSS), Army, Navy,  Air Force personnel among others were known to have, more often than not, trampled upon the fundamental rights of Nigerians with impunity. Disobedience to court orders was prevalent during the period.

But, with the advent of civil rule in May 1999, majority of Nigerians expected that those dark days of flagrant disobedience to court orders and violation of fundamental rights of citizens would be history.

However, 20 years down the line, the practice appears to have become the norm. Cases of disobedience to …

FG Approves National Vehicle Identification Database

As shared by Presidential Aide, Tolu Ogunlesi

So @NigeriaGov is automating the issuance process for Import Duty Exemption Certificates (IDEC). Currently a manual process, taking up to 60 days between application for Import Duty Exemption, & approval. With the ongoing automation, the process will take now less than 7 days.

Nigeria issues tens of billions of Naira worth of Import Duty Exemptions annually. But because it’s a paper-based process, impossible to track these exemptions & to know, at any point in time, how much has been used or not used. Manual process also introduces room for corruption.
In the absence …

Between Troubled SAA and Nigeria’s Planned National Carrier

South Africa Airways (SAA) was recently embroiled in labour issues when it wanted to sack over 900 of its workers in the bid to restructure its operation, which the management saw as the only key way to survive.

This led to an industrial action that nearly crippled the airline, but for the sudden end of the industrial action by the workers. There are strong fears that without a bailout, SAA may be at its nadir and there are efforts to ensure that the airline does not go under.

Succour may come to the airline, as South African government is considering …
