NAPTIP Decries Rising Spate Of Human Trafficking In Nigeria

While reacting to the recent charges of human trafficking being slammed on the former Senate President of Nigeria, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has announced that internal trafficking was on the rise in Nigeria.

The agency had also made note of the fact that the rate was way higher than external trafficking.

Fatima Waziri-Azi who is the Director-General of NAPTIP had made this announcement on Thursday in Benin at a meeting with stakeholders and partners in Edo.

Justify Rape, Get Arrested – NAPTIP Tells Nigerians

Mrs Julie Okah-Donli, Director-General (DG), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), has cautioned Nigerians to desist from justifying rape or get arrested as suspects.

Okah-Donli said this while answering questions from newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.

She queried parents for not doing enough to take care of their wards and children, explaining that 90 per cent of rape cases were committed by uncles, fathers and relations.

According to her, many careless acts by parents are responsible for rape cases across the country.

NAPTIP Apprehends Lebanese Human Trafficker

The Lagos Command of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Command, has apprehended a Lebanese for recruiting Nigerian women for labour and sexual exploitation in his home country.

NAPTIP Lagos Commander, Mr. Daniel Atokolo, said the survivor (names withheld) was trafficked by the 54-year-old Lebanese in October 2019, to his home country.
