The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi has formally announced that lawmakers will name a select committee to investigate the deadly US Capitol riot, weeks after Senate Republicans blocked the formation of a bipartisan, 9/11-style commission.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, she said; ‘This morning, with great solemnity and sadness, I am announcing that the House will be establishing a select committee on the January 6 insurrection,’

US House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi has spoken on President Donald Trump’s controversial comments regarding the protest for the killing of an American, George Floyd, by a police officer in the United States.

Following the killing of Floyd last week, Americans, mostly of the black race have taken to the streets over police brutality with several US states activating National Guard troops.

George Floyd, an unarmed 46-year-old African-American man died at the hands of a police officer in Minneapolis.

Pelosi Warns Trump Not To Reopen America Too Soon

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has cautioned President Donald Trump against reopening the country too quickly.

She also suggested the House of Representatives might not return to Washington, D.C. at the end of April as originally planned as the coronavirus pandemic continued to spiral.

In a Thursday interview with Politico, Pelosi said: “I would hope that the scientific community would weigh in and say, ‘You can’t do this, it is only going to make matters worse if you go out too soon.’”
