Drug Hawkers Are Merchants Of Death – NAFDAC Warns

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has again condemned the activities of drug hawkers describing them as merchants of death.

The Director-General of the agency, Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, stated this at a sensitization campaign in Awka in Anambra State.

The Director-General who was represented by the Director of Chemical Evaluation and Research, Pharmacist (Mrs) Ngozi Onuorah, warned members of the public to desist from buying drugs from hawkers.

NAFDAC Approves Pfizer-BionTech Vaccine For Emergency Use

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) yesterday announced that it has approved the Pfizer-BionTech COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in Nigeria as the fight against the corona Virus continues.

The Director-General of the agency, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, made this disclosure at a press briefing at its headquarters in Lagos.

She clarified that the approval given was not a full one, pointing out however that it would be in effect within the period of getting people vaccinated and gathering data about the adverse effects following immunisation.

National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised the alarm that agro-input dealers are endangering the life and health of Nigerians through the use of agrochemical, “Sniper” and all other brands of ‘’Dichlorvos’’ (DDVP) to preserve foodstuffs. 
NAFDAC warned that use of such agrochemicals for such unapproved purposes has severe health implications that could lead to death.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) said the agency introduced e-registration to simplify the registration exercise for its customers.

Packaging Food In Polythene Bags Causes Cancer – NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) has warned that polythene bags popularly known as nylon causes cancer.

It appealed to Nigerians to stop using the materials for food packaging.

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC spoke in a chat with journalists on Monday in Abuja.

 

“Packaging of pap in nylon is not encouraging; green leaves are all over the place, leaf is the best thing to use for packaging item and it must be clean”, she said.

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), on Monday said the agency was considering recruiting staff to fill up vacant positions in 2020.

National Agency for Food and Drugs Adminstration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted 21 containers of spoilt frozen fish at Tincan Island Port in Lagos.

The Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.

National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has urged  fruit sellers to refrain from using calcium carbide to ripen fruits for commercial purpose.

The NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, made the call in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, saying that “using carbide to ripen fruits is dangerous for human health.”

Calcium carbide is a toxic and highly dangerous, corrosive chemical used industrially in the production of acetylene gas, which burns and produces light.
