An elderly Islamic cleric, Ladan Zubairu, was killed early Monday during a dawn prayer session at Yusuf Garko Mosque in the Maraba Quarters area of Kano, Nigerian authorities said, sparking unrest that briefly rattled the neighborhood.

Bandits yesterday attacked a Jumuat Mosque in Zugu community of Gummi local government area of Zamfara state and abducted dozens of worshippers in a move that has sparked massive outrage.

Twin suicide bombers linked to the Boko Haram sect attacked a mosque in Gwoza, Borno state, on Sunday, killing a 12-year-old child and leaving many people injured.

A security source, who disclosed this to TheCable, said the suicide bombers forced their way into the mosque while prayer was ongoing.
