FG To Complete Apapa-Oshodi-Ojota Road in 12 Months

Motorists will have to endure additional 12 months of nerve-breaking traffic on the Apapa-Oshodi-Oworonsoki-Ojota highway for the rehabilitation of the road to be completed, according to the federal government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that driving on the highway has been a huge nightmare for motorists since the reconstruction commenced on November 17, 2018.

Similarly, there has been traffic lockdown in the Iganmu area of Lagos over the years. Joint efforts by the Lagos State Government and other agencies to tackle the problem have not yielded lasting solution.

4 UNIPORT Teaching Hospital Nurses Die In Six Months

National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) has raised concern that it lost four Chief Nursing Officers within six months due to stress from work overload.

Chairman of the Association in UPTH, MacDonald Uchendu, said the affected Nursing Officers were within the ages of 48 and 56 years.

CBN: Electronic Payments Hit ₦424tn In Nine Months

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s cashless policy has received a boost as the total value of transactions through various electronic payment (e-payment) channels stood at a total of ₦424.371 trillion in the first nine months of 2019.

This represented 83.5 per cent increase compared with the total of N231.247 trillion recorded at the end of June 2019.
The figures were contained in the latest industry e-payment data as at the end of September obtained from the CBN.

Police Yet to Rescue Lecturer 4 Months After Abduction

Security operatives in Kaduna and Katsina States have not been able to rescue a lecturer with Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Abubakar Idris four months after he was abducted, THISDAY checks revealed.

Idris, an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Languages and Linguistics, was abducted by yet-to-be identified gunmen on August 2 at his residence in Shagari Low-cost, Kaduna, Kaduna State.

Doctor’s Decomposing Body Found In Hospital Months Later

Police in Anambra state have discovered the dead and decomposing body of a 65-year-old medical doctor in his hospital, months after he died.

The medical doctor, Dr Gilbert Afam Gini is said to be occupying two flats, which he uses to run his hospital, Santa Cruz clinic at No 9 Eze Crescent Ezinifite Okpuno, near Awka.

Anambra Airport Will Be Ready In 18 Months – Obiano

Construction work at the Anambra Cargo Airport would be completed in less than 18 months, Governor Willie Obiano has said.

The assurance came four years after the project cited at Umueri community, Anambra East Local Government Area, was flagged off.

NYSC Hostels Fixed 5 Months After AbdulRazaq’s Visit

Kwara Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has renovated the decrepit hostels of the state’s National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) camp, barely five months after he described the facilities as  penitentiaries not fit for human living.

The renovation came three months after his administration also supplied the facilities with 400 mattresses, 200 double-bunk beds, 100 long benches, and consumables which the government said were meant to make the camp more conducive for the corps members.

Customs Generates ₦1.002trn Revenue In 9 Months

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated revenue of about ₦1.002 trillion from January to September 2019.

The data received by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) from the Department of Research and Statistics and confirmed by the NCS’s public relations office indicated that the revenue was generated from 32 commands.

The statistics showed that the service recorded the highest revenue of ₦123.6 billion in the month of July followed by N118.6 billion realised in May.

The data also revealed that the lowest revenue was recorded in the month of February with N86.3 billion.

A Nigerian national resident in Atlanta, Georgia, Olufolajimi Abegunde has been sentenced to 78 months in prison for cyber fraud.

Abegunde, an MBA graduate from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, who also ordered to pay $57,911.62 in restitution to the victims of his offense, a statement by the United States Department of Justice said.
