EFCC Vs Adoke: What Court Decided On Monday

Justice A.I. Kutigi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Gwagwalada, Abuja, on Monday, adjourned hearing on the trial of former attorney-general and minister of Justice, Muhammed Bello Adoke and others to Thursday, for ruling on their bail applications.

Adoke, (first defendant), along with six others were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, last Thursday, before Justice Kutigi on amended 42-count charges, to which they pleaded not guilty, thus setting the stage for their trial.

At today’s sitting, prosecution counsel, Bala Sanga told the court that the matter was for the hearing of the defendant’s bailing application,

War: Iran, Pakistan Reaches Agreement On Monday

Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Zarif, and his visiting Pakistani counterpart, Shah Qureshi, on Monday urged closer cooperation between the two neighbours.

According to Iran’s state television, Zarif and Qureshi in a meeting in Iran, discussed bilateral ties as well as the latest regional and international developments.

They emphasised close cooperation of Tehran and Islamabad to de-escalate tensions in the Persian Gulf.

On Sunday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, expressed his country’s readiness to promote amicable ties with all regional countries.

Rouhani called for collective efforts to ensure peace and relieve tensions in the region.

INEC Adjourns Collation Till Monday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has adjourned the collation of the Kogi State governorship election result till 8am Monday.

The INEC Returning Officer for the state, Prof. Mohammed Umar, disclosed that this has become necessary to enable the collation officers do their work in the remaining two local government areas — Lokoja and Ibaji respectively.

Meanwhile, Governor Yahaya Bello is leading in the results of the 19 local government areas declared by INEC so far.

Eid-ul-Mawlud: FG Declares Monday Public Holiday

The Federal Government has declared Monday as Public Holiday to mark the 2019 Eid-ul-Mawlud in commemoration of the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

Mr Mohammed Manga, Director Press and Public Relations of the Ministry of Interior, announced this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

He said the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, congratulated the Muslim faithful on the occasion and enjoined them to live within the virtues and teachings of the Prophet.

He said imbibing the Prophet’s virtues of love, courage and perseverance would guarantee peace and security in the country.
