Nigerian Kemi Badenoch Reappointed Trade Minister By Sunak

British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak on Tuesday confirmed the re-appointment of British lawmaker, Kemi Badenoch as trade minister and also given the role of equalities minister. 

Recall that Badenoch was one of the biggest supporters of Sunak in the most recent race to replace an outgoing leader, Liz Truss. She was also a contender earlier this year in a Conservative Party leadership contest to replace then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has revealed that with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) remitting almost zero Naira to the federation, the government can no longer sustain petroleum subsidy cost which currently stands at about ₦250 billion monthly.

Speaking to State House Correspondents on Wednesday shortly after the week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the Minister insisted that subsidy must be removed by 2022 and replaced with ₦5000-a-month transportation grant to the poorest Nigerians, saying that subsidy was no longer sustainable.

Security Agencies Requested Zamfara Telecom Shutdown – Pantami

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, has explained that security agencies were actually the ones that requested the shutdown of telecommunication services in Zamfara to curtail banditry.

The Minister clarified that the directive did not originate from his ministry and that the Federal Government did not object to the request either.

President Muhammadu Buhari has cancelled the dismissal of Marilyn Amobi as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company Limited (NBET).

Sale Mamman, Minister of Power, had asked Amobi to step down with immediate effect. He also ordered her probe.
