The Niger State government has said that its 2020 budget is based on the payment of the ₦30,000 minimum wage.

This is just as the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thumbed down the fiscal estimates describing it as “budget of nothingness and profound sleaziness”.

NLC Leadership Meets State Chairmen Over Minimum Wage

The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said that it would hold a consultative meeting with chairmen of state branches of the congress on Wednesday in Abuja.

Although the union did not state the agenda of the meeting, THISDAY gathered that the NLC intends to assess the level of compliance by state governments on the implementation of the national minimum wage for their workers.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has set up a joint negotiating committee on the implementation of new minimum wage.
A statement by Chief John Okiyi Kalu, Commissioner for Information, said the team headed by the Head of Service, was expected to conclude and submit its report to the governor by December 31.

Gombe has called on workers in the state to be calm and patient as the governor is working to setup a team that will engage labour leaders on the implementation of the new national minimum wage.

Doctors in Lagos State, under the aegis of Medical Guild, have rejected the new minimum wage paid to workers by the state government, saying it is below the expectations of civil servants.

The Adamawa Government has commenced payment of ₦32,000 minimum wage to its workers.

Minimum Wage: Lagos Still Negotiating With Labour

The Lagos State Government Saturday said it is still negotiating with workers’ union on the new minimum wage agreed by the Nigerian government and labour unions.
“We are in the process of minimum wage negotiations with labour and we are looking at the best modalities to implement it,” said Mr Abiodun Bamgboye the Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishments, Training and Pensions.

Bamgboye said any agreement reached with the labour unions will be made public through government recognised communication channels.

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has ordered the implementation of ₦30,000 new national Minimum Wage in the state.

The new wage takes effect from November, according to a statement by the Director Media and Communications, Solomon Kumangar.
