Tension As Somali Forces Kill Over 100 Al-Shabab Militants

Somali National Army (SNA) which is reportedly supported by local militia dubbed Ma’awisley killed more than 100 al-Shabab militants and liberated over 20 villages during security operations carried out in two regional states on Sunday, the government has disclosed. 

The Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism said the operations were conducted in Galmudug, Hirshabelle and South-West States.

“The terror group has been using these towns as strongholds for organising their terrorist attacks with explosives and suicide bombers on different parts of Somalia,” the ministry said in a statement.

The army in Burkina Faso has disclosed that its soldiers yesterday destroyed a ‘terrorist base’ and killed dozens of militants in an operation north of the country.

Nigeria Militants Kidnap 14, Including 2 Red Cross Workers

Armed militants in northeast Nigeria have kidnapped 14 people, including two Red Cross workers and an army sergeant, security sources said on Thursday.

The group were intercepted by fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Wednesday night in Borno state, two Nigerian security sources said.

“Terrorists from ISWAP set up a roadblock on a road between Maiduguri and Damaturu yesterday… and took 14 people,” said one security source said.

2020 Budget: FG To Reintegrate Ex-Militants With ₦65bn

The Federal Government has earmarked ₦65 billion for the reintegration of ex-militants under the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

Also, ₦37.83 billion and ₦80.88 billion were allocated to the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the  Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) respectively.

This was even as the government allocated ₦110 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of roads in every geopolitical zone in Nigeria.
