China Sanctions Mike Pompeo, 27 Other Trump Officials

China, on Wednesday, imposed sanctions against former US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo and 27 other officials of the Trump administration.

The action came 24 hours after Pompeo accused China of genocide against Uighur Muslims.

The announcement was made as Joe Biden took oath of office as President.

China said Pompeo and others had “executed a series of crazy moves, gravely interfered in China’s internal affairs, undermined China’s interests, offended the Chinese people, and seriously disrupted China-US relations”.

Former officials affected are trade chief, Peter Navarro; national security advisers …

US Seeks Breakthrough On Sudan Before Election

With weeks to go before US elections, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is racing to make a breakthrough with Sudan that he hopes could also benefit Israel.

Sudan’s new civilian-led government is urgently seeking to be removed from the US blacklist of state sponsors of terrorism, and is seen by Washington as open to becoming the latest Arab state to recognize Israel — a major cause for President Donald Trump’s electoral base.

“The United States has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to ensure that compensation is finally provided to victims of the 1998 Al-Qaeda-backed terrorist attacks on the US embassies in Kenya …

Trump Fires State Watchdog Said To Be Probing Pompeo

Donald Trump’s move to fire a government watchdog reportedly investigating Secretary of State Mike Pompeo amounted to a potentially illegal act of retribution, according to senior Democrats leading an angry backlash Saturday.

Trump notified House of Representatives speaker Nancy Pelosi late Friday that he planned to dismiss State Department Inspector General Steve Linick.

It was his third abrupt dismissal of an official tasked with monitoring governmental wrongdoing since April.

Democrats denounced it as part of what they said was a troubling pattern of the president undermining the traditionally independent watchdogs.

WHO Tackles U.S. Secretary Pompeo On Coronavirus Origin

The World Health Organisation said U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was being speculative alleging that a Chinese laboratory based in Wuhan unleashed coronavirus on the world.

WHO called for a science-based inquiry.

Pompeo said on Sunday there was “a significant amount of evidence” that the virus emerged from the Wuhan lab.

He however did not dispute U.S. intelligence agencies’ conclusion that it was not man-made.

Dr Mike Ryan, WHO’s top emergencies expert, told an online press conference from Geneva:

“We have not received any data-specific evidence from the …

Pompeo Steps Up US Pressure On China Over Pandemic

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday stepped up a US campaign to hold China accountable for the spread of the deadly coronavirus, asserting there is “enormous evidence” the virus originated in a laboratory in the city of Wuhan.

The high-security bio-containment facility, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, has called such claims “impossible”.

Pompeo, speaking on ABC’s “This Week,” did not elaborate on what he also described as “significant amounts of evidence”. But Pompeo’s words clearly sought to buttress repeated criticism from Donald Trump about China’s role in the pandemic.

The US president has said that by playing down the …

Coronavirus Not Reported To WHO On Time – Pompeo Insists

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday renewed the Trump administration’s criticism of China’s early handling of the coronavirus outbreak.

Pompeo said at a news conference; “We strongly believe that the Chinese Communist Party did not report the outbreak of the new coronavirus in a timely fashion to the World Health Organisation”.

Even after Beijing notified the global health body, it “didn’t share all of the information it had,” he said.

“Instead it covered up how dangerous the disease is.  It didn’t report sustained human-to-human transmission for a month until it was in every province inside of China.

US Secretary Of State Pompeo Visits Kabul Amid Crises

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in the Afghan capital Kabul on Monday, a pool report said, amid an ongoing political crisis, a raging Taliban insurgency and rising coronavirus cases.

Pompeo was set to meet with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani along with his archrival Abdullah Abdullah, who also claims the presidency, following a contested election last year.

The visit comes just a day after the Afghan government and the Taliban held their first discussion on arranging prisoner exchanges — a key step in a broader push for peace following a withdrawal deal signed between Washington and the militants last …
