CWG: New World Record Set As Nwachukwu Wins Gold

In another moment of glory, Nwachukwu Goodness on Thursday night claimed a gold medal for Nigeria in the women’s E42.44/61.64 discus throw at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

While doing so, Nwachukwu also set a world record with her throw of 36.56m.

In the contest, Sarah Edminston of Australia came second while Naibili Vanutisolo of Fiji Island took the third position.

In the men’s lightweight para powerlifting, Nnamdi Innocent bagged a bronze medal for the nation. The Nigerian lifted 132.5kg.

Team Nigeria returns from Special Olympics with 63 medals

Special Olympics Nigeria (SON) athletes returned victorious from the 2019 World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi with 63 medals.

At a welcome reception held in their honour on Tuesday in Lagoa, the athletes and officials were celebrated for being resilient, tenacious and exhibiting good sportsmanship.

At the World Summer Games, athletes from over 190 countries including Nigeria participated in Athletics, Badminton, Unified Basketball, Cycling, Unified Football, Swimming, Table Tennis and Unified Volleyball.

Chairman of Special Olympics Nigeria, Gbolade Osibodu expressed his happiness with the performance of the team.
