The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has thrown his weight behind the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Bishop Matthew Kukah over his recent comments on insecurity.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that Kukah had during an address to the US Congress Commission on July 15, accused President Muhammadu Buhari of showing preference to people of his religion which according to him, has worsened the rivalry between Christians and Muslims.

Matthew Kukah, bishop of the Catholic diocese in Sokoto, says President Muhammadu Buhari is making it difficult for Nigerians to celebrate diversity.

The cleric spoke at The Platform, an annual conference organised by Covenant Christian Centre in Lagos, on Thursday.

The virtual event hosted by Poju Oyemade, its convener, was to commemorate the nation’s 60th independence anniversary.

Kukah faulted the current composition of the Nigerian leadership with Muslims occupying leading positions across various political institutions.

Matthew Kukah, Catholic bishop of Sokoto diocese, says Nigeria is on the crossroads and its future hangs “precariously” in a balance.

Kukah said this in Kaduna during his homily at the funeral mass of Michael Nnadi, a student of the Catholic Good Shepherd Seminary, Kaduna, who was abducted and subsequently murdered.

Gunmen had invaded the seminary on January 8, abducting four students, including Nnadi. Three of the students were released after a ransom was paid, but Nnadi did not make it out alive.
