ICC: Court Probes Mass Killings After RSF Seizes Al-Fashir

The International Criminal Court (ICC) says it is gathering evidence of alleged mass killings and sexual violence following the seizure of al-Fashir, the last military stronghold in Sudan’s Darfur region, by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In a statement released Monday, ICC prosecutors confirmed they had opened an active phase of evidence collection tied to recent atrocities in the city, which fell to the RSF late last month. β€œWithin the ongoing investigation, the office is taking immediate steps regarding the alleged crimes in al-Fashir to preserve and collect relevant evidence for its use in future prosecutions,” the statement said.…

Japan: Man Sentenced To Death For Killing 19 At Care Home

A Japanese man was sentenced to death on Monday for the stabbing murder of 19 disabled people at a care home, in one of the country’s worst mass killings.

Satoshi Uematsu never disputed his involvement in the grisly rampage but his lawyers entered a plea of not guilty, arguing the 30-year-old was suffering a “mental disorder” linked to his use of marijuana.

The court ruled that the former employee of the facility deserved no leniency over the 2016 attack, which shocked the country.
