What France President, Macron Agreed With Iraq On Saturday

French President Emmanuel Macron has met his Iraqi counterpart, President Barham Salih, following the killing of Qassem Soleimani, Iranian army General.

Maj.-Gen. Qassem Soleimani, Commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, was killed in a US airstrike on his convoy at Baghdad airport on Friday rising the tension of another World War.

The airstrike, which was an order from US President Donald Trump, has since generated a lot of controversies and reactions from world leaders.

The meeting, according Macron’s office, was to make efforts to dampen tensions in the Middle East.

Macron Pledges French Help To Fight Armed Groups In Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo has been wracked by conflict near its eastern border after numerous militias evolved from the two Congo wars (1996-1997 and 1998-2003).

“France is fully engaged at the side of DRC to fight armed groups which are destabilising the country”, some of which are linked to the Islamic State group, Macron told Tshisekedi during a meeting in Paris.

President Emmanuel Macron of France has described Nato as “brain dead”, stressing what he sees as waning commitment to the transatlantic alliance by its main guarantor, the US.

Interviewed by the Economist, he cited the US failure to consult Nato before pulling forces out of northern Syria.

He also questioned whether Nato was still committed to collective defence.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, a key ally, said she disagreed with Mr Macron’s “drastic words”.

Russia, which sees Nato as a threat to its security, welcomed the French president’s comments as “truthful words”.

Merkel, Macron to host Balkans meeting in Berlin

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron are hosting a meeting of Balkan leaders in Berlin, a move intended to restart deadlocked talks between Serbia and Kosovo.

The meeting on Monday will include the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia, several Western Balkans leaders and the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini.
