Ogun Announces Postponement Of Local Govt Elections To 2021

Those jostling for the positions of local government chairmen and councillors in Ogun State may have to ‘calm down’ as government of the state said the election will not hold this year 2020.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, said the council poll cannot be conducted this year.

According to Afuape, the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) is yet to be constituted by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Suspended Local Government chairmen in Imo State have berated the state governor, Hope Uzodinma, for appointing interim chairmen for the 27 LGAs in the state.

The embattled chairmen said it was wrong for the Governor to disregard the provisions of the law.

They described the Governor’s constitution of an interim management committees as unlawful and illegal.

The ALGON chairman, Emeka Osuorji told Africa Daily News that they would continue to apply legal means until justice was done, recalling that the immediate past government of Emeka Ihedioha also turned deaf
