Buhari Leaves Nigeria After Meeting With Security Chiefs

President Muhammadu Buhari has departed Abuja for London, to take part in the inaugural UK-Africa Investment Summit holding on January 20.

According to NAN, Buhari performed some official assignments including his meeting with security chiefs, before flying out of the country.

The president also joined hundreds of Muslims faithful at the Aso Rock Mosque, where he observed the two raka’at Juma’at prayer.

Earlier this week, Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said in a statement that the London Investment Summit would be hosted by the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.

President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Abuja today for Egypt to attend the Aswan Forum designed to set an agenda for sustainable peace and development in Africa.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said Buhari will be accompanied by Governors Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Godwin Obaseki of Edo and Mai Mala Buni of Yobe to the two-day forum scheduled for December 11-12.

Peru opposition leader Keiko Fujimori was released from prison Friday after spending 13 months in pre-trial detention in a corruption case linked to Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht.

Her release comes days after the country’s Constitutional Court ordered her freed in a ruling related only to her detention and which otherwise has no bearing on the corruption case against her.

Counter-terror police were on Friday probing a mass stabbing at a shopping centre in northwest England that left five people injured and needing hospital treatment. The attack happened at the Arndale shopping centre in the heart of Manchester, where an Islamist extremist suicide bomber killed 22 after an Ariana Grande concert in 2017.

A package blast on a pedestrian street in the heart of France’s city of Lyon wounded several people Friday, officials said, just two days ahead of the country’s hotly contested European Parliament elections.

President Emmanuel Macron called the blast an “attack” during a live Facebook interview, adding that no deaths had been reported “for the time being”.
