Sowore not dismissed as Lagos AAC disowns Nzenwa

The Lagos State Chapter of the African Alliance Congress (AAC) said on Sunday that it would not recognise Mr Leonard Nzenwa as the national chairman of the party.

The Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Mr Elias Ozikpu, expressed the position in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He was reacting to the reported sacking of Mr Omoyele Sowore as National Chairman by a convention of the party on Aug. 9 in Owerri and the subsequent naming of Nzenwa as new chairman.

2 killed, 21 injured in Lagos pipeline explosion

Two persons were killed and 21 others injured on Thursday in a pipeline explosion at Ijegun, on the outskirts of Lagos.

No fewer than 100 persons were killed in a similar incident at Ijegun 11 years ago.

Lagos State Emergency Management (LASEMA) boss Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu however, put the number of the injured at 12.

The accident occurred around 4am when vandals were siphoning petrol from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipelines that runs through the community from Atlas Cove Depot in Lagos.

NAFDAC intercepts 21 containers of spoilt fish in Lagos

National Agency for Food and Drugs Adminstration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted 21 containers of spoilt frozen fish at Tincan Island Port in Lagos.

The Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that fish is among items banned for importation into the country by the Federal Government.

Adeyeye urged the public to be vigilant and not to consume fish that would be harmful to them.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Zubairu Muazu, on Monday paraded 202 people, suspected of involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and other related crimes in Lagos State.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will sworn-in Justice Kazeem Alogba as the acting chief judge of the state on Thursday, June 13, following the exit of Justice Opeyemi Oke, who is retiring from the state judiciary after statutory years of service.

The outgoing Justice Oke’s tenure ends today.

Police arrest 3 traffic robbers in Lagos

The police in Lagos said it arrested three suspected traffic robbers in two separate operations around Ayobo/Ipaja areas of the state, less than 24 hours to Sallah holidays.

Spokesman for the command, DSP Bala Elkana, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Wednesday, saying the suspects usually pretend to be commercial motorcyclists before attacking their victims.

A Bus Rapid Transport bus was on Wednesday burnt beyond recognition on third mainland bridge in Lagos State.

The incident which resulted in a heavy traffic gridlock on the bridge had officials of the Lagos fire service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) at the scene to put out the fire and also manage the traffic.

Flooded streets, grinding traffic jam, homes with roofs blown off, uprooted trees and stuck vehicles.

Lagosians were struggling all yesterday to cope with the aftermath of an early morning downpour that drenched the city and its outskirts.

Lagos deputy-governor elect, Dr Hamzat, loses father

The Lagos State Deputy Governor-elect, Dr Obafemi Hamzat has lost his father, Oba
Mufutau Olatunji  Hamzat.

He was until his death on Sunday the traditional ruler of Afowowa Kingdom in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State. He was aged 86.
