Court Admits Kidnap Kingpin, Evans’ Confessional Statement

An Igbosere High Court, Lagos, on Wednesday admitted the alleged confessional statement of the suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as“ Evans” as exhibit.

Delivering a ruling, Justice Adedayo Akintoye, held that the test of voluntariness of a statement cannot be determined by a procedural law relied upon by the defendant but by the provisions of the evidence act which is the instant law that regulates the admissibility of a statement.

A Federal High Court judge serving in Akure, Ondo State, Justice Abdul Dogo, was on Tuesday abducted by gunmen.

Dogo was said to have been abducted along with his driver at Ibilo/Isua Akoko axis, a border area between Ondo and Edo states while on their way from Abuja to Akure.

A source close to the federal judiciary in Akure confirmed the incident that was corroborated by two of the lawyers who were in his court for hearing of their cases.

An officer of the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who was shot during kidnappers’ onslaught on Pegi community in Kuje Area Council of the FCT, has died.

The victim, Samuel Aku Attah, a Chief Superintendent Officer in the NSCDC, died at the Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, where he was receiving treatment.

The 44-year-old is survived by two children and aged parents. He was shot when gunmen, dressed in military camouflage, kidnapped nine persons during a raid on the community on October 8.

Gunmen Kidnap Nine Persons In Pegi Community Of Abuja

Gunmen clad in military camouflage violated the peace in Pegi resettlement community when they kidnapped nine persons during a brazing attack on the community, located in the Kuje Area Council, of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Members of the community, who confirmed the attack, said the kidnappers struck about 8 p.m. on Monday night.

They disclosed that some of the kidnappers had established contact with the families of some of the kidnapped persons, demanding ₦10 million ransom.

An unnamed woman has allegedly abducted an 18-month-old baby at a Catholic Church in Awada, Onitsha, Anambra State.

The Permanent Secretary in the Taraba State Ministry of Water Resources, Mrs. Susana Jonathan, has been abducted by unknown gunmen, it was learnt yesterday.

Mrs. Jonathan was allegedly abducted from her home at ATC in Jalingo, the state capital, at about 2:17am, residents told reporters.

The news came barely five days after the Deputy Registrar of the Taraba State University, Jalingo, Mr. Sanusi Sa’ad, was kidnapped in the university’s quarters, a few meters from the house of the abducted permanent secretary.

A five-day-old baby allegedly abducted in their home in Ijagbe commmunity, Mopa-Muro Local Government Area, Kogi, is yet to be found 10 days after the incident.

A police officer simply identified as DSP Godwin and four other persons have been abducted by gunmen at Ubiaja, headquarters of Esan South East local government area.
