Coronavirus: Viewing Centers Lament Low Patronage

Operators of viewing centres in Kano have decried the low patronage sequel to suspension of the European League occasioned by the coronavirus crisis.

A cross-section of the centre operators, who spoke on Thursday in Kano, said the pandemic had negatively affected the trade and exposed them to losses.

Aminu Sa’ad, a viewing centre operator, said that the number of football fans patronising the centre has dropped since the suspension of the Champions and European Leagues.

He said: “The suspension is regrettable; we spend much on the subscription which is expensive, we are now running the centre at a loss”.

Kano Residents Hail Ganduje Ban On Street Begging

Some Kano residents on Wednesday commended Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State for banning street begging in the State.

Ganduje gave the directive on Tuesday even as he threatened to prosecute parents of children found on the streets.

The governor said the decision was made to fully consolidate the free and compulsory primary and secondary schools education in Kano.

Some of the residents told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that the directive would add more value in the state.

There was Pandemonium in Kano on Tuesday as the operatives of the Department of State Security, DSS, went berserk against members of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers who are closing filling stations in protest.

Already, reports indicate that several members of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers have been arrested in Kano for what the DSS termed illegal actions of closing of filling stations.

An Operative of the DSS who doesn’t want his names in print said that they were able to open eight filling stations short down by the PTD member’s.

Escaped Female Kidnapper Rearrested In Kano

The Department of the State Security and the Kano Correctional Center has rearrested Mercy Paul who escaped after been arrested for alleged kidnapping of several Kano Children and sold them in Anambra State.

Mercy Paul was arrested along others for allegedly kidnapping several Kano children and selling them in Anambra State sometimes last year 2019.

However, on 31th January 2020, Mercy Paul was said to have escaped from hospital where she was taken for medication after falling ill at Kano Kurmawa Correctional Centre where she is waiting trail.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday brought Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II together when he visited the palace of the Emir.

Kano: Buhari Approves Appointment Of New CMD

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Professor Abba Sheshe as the new Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) Kano, Kano State.

The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, announced the appointment in a statement signed by Mrs Enefaa Bob-Manuel, Head, Media and Public Relations of the ministry in Abuja.

Kano: Ganduje Makes New Appointments

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has approved the appointment of substantive Head of Service, in person of Hajiya Binta Lawan Ahmed.

Ahmed, until her appointment was the Permanent Secretary State Ministry of Commerce.

She replaces Dr Kabiru Shehu, who was in acting capacity, after the completion of his service years, with the state civil service, few weeks back.

Kano: Court Nullifies Creation Of Four Additional Emirates

A Kano State High Court on Thursday nullified the creation of four additional first-class emirates and their emirs by the state government.

The presiding judge, Justice Usman Na’Abba, said the law that provided for the creation of the emirate was not properly enacted, based on the provision of section 101 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
