The Court of Appeal in Abuja, on Friday, upheld the conviction and death sentence by hanging that was handed to Maryam Sanda, by a lower court for killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.

Delivering judgment, Justice Stephen Adah, who read the decision on behalf of the three-member panel of justices held that the trial judge was right in his decision.

‘I have gone through the record before the court and I am fully certain that the learned trial court did not engage any investigation outside the evidence before it,’ he said.

Tight Security As Supreme Court Sets For Judgment On Sokoto

The entrances to the Supreme Court, Monday, witnessed uncommon security arrangement as the apex court is set to deliver guber appeal judgments in the heavily politicised Sokoto and Kano states.

NAN observed that from the main entrance to the Villa gate, there are scores of armed security personnel turning back most vehicles and individuals going to the apex court for today’s judgements.

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Friday, dismissed the grounds upon which the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, faulted the supreme court judgement that removed former Governor Emeka Ihedioha as governor of Imo State as reckless and baseless.

It also declared that Ihedioha did not win one-fourth in two-third of the total votes casted in the 27 local government areas of the state.

The Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, has vowed to appeal against the high court judgment which struck out the suit he filed against the All Progressives Congress (APC).
