Over 16 Gruesomely Murdered In Northeastern Mali Attacks

No fewer than 16 people were killed in two-midweek attacks which occurred in northeastern Mali by suspected jihadists on encampments of nomadic tribesmen, local sources have confirmed. 

A source close to the authorities in Menaka, the region near the Niger border where the attacks happened told newsmen on Monday that; ‘The killings took place in the evening between Wednesday and Thursday with the same modus operandi: assailants on motorbikes who came into the camp, shot at people indiscriminately from close range, then take away their livestock’.

27 Murdered In Twin Jihadist Attacks In Burkina Faso

No fewer than 27 people were killed by suspected jihadists in attacks on villages in northern Burkina Faso at the weekend, authorities have confirmed.

A security official provided an estimate death toll, stating that ‘approximately 15’ individuals, some of them were children, were slain late Sunday near Bourasso in the Kossi province.

A local resident estimated there were 20 or so fatalities.

‘Armed men moved around the village at around 5:00 pm, firing in the air. They came back at night and blindly opened fire on people,’ the source said.

Jihadists Kill 12 Soldiers In Chad In Fresh Attack

Clashes between the army and jihadists in the Lake Chad region on Tuesday left at least 12 Chadians dead.

Mahamat Fadoul Mackaye, a provisional head in the army said 40 Islamist fighters were also killed following the attack on an army position in the marshy region used as a rear base by jihadist groups including Nigeria-based Boko Haram and a dissident branch, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

‘The defence forces responded vigorously to chase away the enemy, which left 40 bodies and weapons, but we mourn the loss of 12 soldiers,’ Mackaye told newsmen by telephone.

Six school teachers were kidnapped Friday by suspected jihadists in central Mali because they spoke French in the classroom, local and security forces said.

A Nigerian soldier was killed and another compatriot was injured in two attacks on the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali, UN officials said on Sunday.

Gunmen attacked the UN troops in Timbuktu in the north of the country, where several groups of militants are active, according to Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres.
