3,150 Rockets Were Fired From Gaza In Past Week – Israel

A week after the shelling began, militants have fired some 3,150 rockets from the Gaza Strip toward Israel, officials of the Israeli army have revealed.

The army claimed that about 460 of the rockets never made it across the border and went down in Gaza territory.

The Iron Dome missile defence system had an interception rate of about 90 percent, it disclosed.

An Israeli airstrike on Saturday demolished the 13-floor building housing Qatar-based Al Jazeera television and American news agency – The Associated Press in the Gaza Strip, Africa Daily News, New York has learnt.

Al Jazeera said in a tweet on Saturday said Israel ‘destroyed Jala Tower in the Gaza Strip, which contains the Al Jazeera and other international press offices’. 

Al Jazeera broadcast footage showing the building collapsing to the ground after the Israeli airstrike, sending up a huge mushroom cloud of dust and debris.

Israeli army intercepts unmanned drone in Gaza

Israeli army said on Monday that its troops intercepted a drone after it crossed the border from the Gaza Strip.

“Troops identified an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that crossed from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory,“ a military spokesperson said in a statement.

“In response, the troops downed the UAV and took it in for examination,’’ it added.

The unusual incident came amid tensions between Israel and Hamas movement which runs Gaza, the coastal enclave.
