Mozambique To Crush Jihadists In North With Foreign Help

The President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi has vowed to flush out Islamic State-linked militants in the north of the country with the help of regional allies that are set to contribute ground forces.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that the 16 southern African countries in the SADC bloc on Wednesday approved the deployment of forces to help neutralise the deadly insurgency that has ravaged the gas-rich Cabo Delgado province since late 2017.

According to the United Nations, the insurgency has claimed more than 2,900 lives, according to conflict data tracker ACLED, and displaced around 800,000 people.

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for a rocket that hit a small oil refinery in northern Iraq on Sunday, causing a fire at a fuel storage tank and forcing a complete shutdown of operations after the blaze spread to a nearby pipeline network, two refinery officials said.

This is coming as US President Trump is due to leave office in less the two months. The group’s activities have been put to a check since Donald Trump took office in 2016.

Somalia: Isis Fighters Release Training Video In Puntland

The Islamist militant’s threat continues to multiply in Somalia with recent reports showing fighters allied to the Islamic State on Sunday, sighted undergoing intensive training in Bari Mountains, northeast of Puntland.

Since the beginning of this years, the group has remained silent with minimized activities in Somalia citing their frequent rivalry with the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab besides being hunted by security forces.

Multiple reports show the fighters pictured carrying heavy artillery and other small arms. According to a credible source, the militants are being trained at Abu Bakri al-Qurayshi and Abu Hassan al-Muhajir military camps.
