IOC Postpones 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games (Full Statement)

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially postponed the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games after talks with Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.

IOC said the games will be postponed from its original date and will be held no later than summer 2021.

The IOC statement confirming their decision:

Senior International Olympic Committee (IOC) official Dick Pound said Monday a postponement of this year’s Tokyo Olympics is now inevitable as the world reels from the coronavirus pandemic.

Canada has announced withdrawal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics over coronavirus fears, as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) dilly-dallies over the postponement.

The International Olympic Committee will hold high-level talks on Tuesday, as doubts grow over the Tokyo Games and with some in Japan urging officials not to risk lives by pressing ahead during the coronavirus emergency.
