Over 30 Inmates Flee After Massive Lebanon Jailbreak

Africa Daily News, New York has revealed that over 30 inmates have fled a Lebanon detention center at dawn on Sunday after sawing their way through a window, according to a judicial official.

“At dawn … 31 detainees managed to escape” from a detention center in the Adlieh neighbourhood of the capital Beirut, the Internal Security Forces said in a statement on Sunday.

“Immediate orders were given to arrest them and investigations are underway.”

The Federal Government of Nigeria in coalition with the Nigerian Correctional Service has on Friday openly declared 69 of the inmates who escaped from its Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abuja on Tuesday night wanted and asked the general public to supply information about them if they had any in order to aid with their recapture.

NCoS Laments On Prisons Filled Above Carrying Capacity

The Custodial Centres of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have revealed that they are currently in charge of over 16,000 inmates above their carrying capacity, a situation has been revealed to have fuelled some form of  aggression among the inmates and overstretched the prison system in the country.

Prison authorities in Europe are not doing enough to monitor the health of inmates, meaning prisoners are more likely to suffer untreated conditions and are released without adequate support, the World Health Organization said Thursday.

The UN body warned that such failings will come at a “high cost” for society at large as they add to the public health burden.

Another 147 Inmates Found By Nigerian Police In Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has raided another rehabilitation centre in Kaduna, where 147 inmates mostly in shackles were found.

The Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo confirmed the raid in a press statement issued on Saturday in Kaduna.

He said that the police raided NIGAS Rehabilitation and Skills Acquisition Centre located at Rigasa in Igabi Local Government Area, at about 8 am on Saturday.
